This is utter rubbish israel was defending itself against hamas terrorists . Terrorists who want to destroy the state of israel, terrorists who use children to carry out there aims terrorists who fire from civilian areas including schools and hospitals . terrorists who use civilians as shields . terrorists who have killed 200 members of fatah in the past month.
Do you just ignore what is happening to the people in southern israel. Why should the israeli ambassador be expelled, that is tantamount to calling for israel not to exist - there are 60 arab states 1 jewish democratic state who isn't medieval who aren't terrorists and give equal rights to their citizens. i dont hear you calling for the end of hamas

Umm Israel democratic and equal? I thought they just banned the two main Arab parties from standing in elections - plus Hamas is a democratically elected government. Why won't Israel recognise those elections?

israel doesn't recognise hamas election victory as hamas still call's for the destruction the state of israel , calls for the killling of all jews and denies the holocaust.
The standard of living whilst not perfect and i do agree a lot more needs to be done in this area , is a lot better than in most of their arab neighboru's countries
as for the banning of arab parties this was done cos some were endorsing hamas personally i believe this is a wrongheaded move ,and as a democracy the israeli supreme court will rule against this and the parties will be reinstated. Remember far right jewish parties such as Kach have been banned in the past also.

Sorry Stephen, your comments on Hamas are just not true. As a socialist I do not agree what so ever with Hamas' political programme, but they do not call for killing all the Jews, they call for a caliphate were the Jews would live as a protected minority (usually Political Islamists cite the Ottoman empires 'millets' system as a good model).
You might be able to dig our some choice phrases from their 1988 charter or something, but then of course I would dig out some good quotes from the Zionist leaders about Palestinians being beasts that walk on two legs and all that kind of stuff. The reality is that Hamas offered a "60 year ceasefire" back in 2006 which Israel rejected. Israel Also broke the ceasefire agreement in 2008 on November 5th when it killed 5 Palestinians. It is also responcible for the deaths now of many thousands upon thousands of innocent Palestinians. Maybe it is the really the Zionist state that wants to carry out genocide? (As the Israeli academic Illan Pappe calls it, "slow genocide")

And just to add to Simon's point:
Hamas has signed up to the Arab peace initiative, which calls for a two-state solution based on 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as the capital of the new Palestine, in return for full diplomatic and economic relations between Israel and all the Arab countries. The deal has been signed by all the Arab countries plus Hamas and Hizbullah, and its been there since 2002 - Now why does Israel refuse to sign it?
Secondly, Hamas did not adopt the charter in the 2006 election (and hasn't done so since), so why did Israel and the EU and the US refuse to accept the result?

shafiq hamas has not signed up to the peace initiative they still state that they don't recognise israel, in their charter they believe the anti semitic forgery to be incorrect and they also call for all jews in the world to be killed- just recently in the recent israel-hamas conflict they called for the death of all jewish children.
they are not a peace partner , not whilst they support holocaust denial, anti semitism ,and the destruction of the state of israel.
to support hamas is to support anti semites.
With the increased support of hamas in unis it is no wonder anti semitism is on the rise and increasingly jewish students are feeling uncomfortable.
